The Autobit is a top-hammer drill bit exclusively developed by Sandvik for automated deep-hole rock drilling scenarios in mines. As a core supporting drilling tool for the AutoMine® intelligent mining system, it effectively addresses the industry pain points of short bit service life and frequent shutdown maintenance during automated drilling operations, serving as a benchmark product for unmanned mining applications.

Featuring an ultra-long regrinding cycle, the Autobit doubles the drilling footage for first regrinding compared with conventional standard bits. While ordinary drill bits achieve a single operational drilling footage of approximately 50 to 60 meters, the Autobit can exceed 120 meters. It enables drill rigs to operate continuously during shift changes and operational intervals, greatly extending effective drilling time.

The product adopts PowerCarbide® SH70 self-hardening wear-resistant carbide, whose hardness increases rather than decreases after button wear, delivering outstanding impact resistance and wear resistance. Equipped with a full-ballistic tooth profile, reinforced gauge protection structure and front hollow-out design, it improves drilling efficiency by 5%–10% and maintains stable operation even when the carbide buttons are nearly worn flat, further reducing equipment shutdown frequency.

In terms of structural design, the high button protrusion preferentially protects the bit steel body, reduces matrix wear and enhances overall durability. Covering mainstream hole diameters from 76 mm to 115 mm and compatible with common threads such as T45 and ST58, the Autobit is widely applied in long-hole production operations including ore breaking holes and filling holes in underground mines. It is adaptable to both fully autonomous drill rigs and conventional drilling equipment.

With its long service life and low-intervention characteristics, the Autobit achieves effective hardware-software synergy with the AutoMine® system and maximizes the utilization rate of unmanned drill rigs. It significantly reduces manual bit replacement and regrinding operations, lowers the safety risks of personnel entering high-risk working faces, and cuts the comprehensive unit drilling cost. Currently deployed in multiple automated mines worldwide, the Autobit has become a key supporting facility for promoting manpower reduction, intelligence and high efficiency in underground mining, and represents the mainstream research and development direction for automated rock drilling tools.
