A shank adapter is a critical component in rock drilling equipment that connects the drill rod to the rock drill, playing a vital role in transmitting impact energy and rotational torque. Its manufacturing quality directly affects drilling efficiency and service life. The production of a shank adapter is a precision process from raw material to finished product, encompassing multiple stages such as inspection, machining, and heat treatment.

1. Incoming Steel Inspection. Incoming steel inspection is the first checkpoint in production. Each batch of steel must undergo chemical composition analysis, metallographic structure inspection, and dimensional measurement to ensure that the raw materials meet design requirements and prevent non-conforming materials from entering the production line at the source.

2. Rough Machining Stage. The rough machining stage includes cutting, forging, annealing, rough machining, and pre-finishing heat treatment. Forging densifies the metal structure and forms the preliminary shape, while annealing relieves forging stresses and improves machinability. After rough machining, the workpiece undergoes preparatory heat treatment before finishing, preparing the microstructure for subsequent precision machining.

3. Precision Machining. Precision machining is the key process that gives the shank adapter its final geometry. Through steps such as center hole machining, outer diameter turning, spline forming, and side water hole drilling, the precise profile of the shank adapter is gradually formed, with dimensional tolerances of all parts strictly controlled within design specifications.

4. Heat Treatment. Heat treatment is the critical 环节 that achieves the core mechanical properties of the shank adapter. A through-carburizing process is used to form a high-carbon layer on the surface, followed by air-cooling quenching and tempering. This gives the shank adapter surface high hardness and wear resistance while maintaining good toughness in the core, achieving high fatigue strength.

5. Shot Blasting and Straightening. The shank adapter undergoes straightening and shot blasting to eliminate quenching distortion and remove surface oxide scale.

6. Precision Finishing of Surface and Details After Heat Treatment. Subsequently, the outer diameter and side water holes are precision ground and finished to restore and ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of critical mating surfaces.

7. Anti-Corrosion Treatment. Shank adapters for ordinary operating conditions receive conventional anti-corrosion measures to ensure corrosion resistance during transportation and application. For shank adapters used in severely corrosive environments, additional chrome plating or coating treatment is required to enhance corrosion resistance.

8. Marking and Packaging. The marking process assigns unique identification information to each shank adapter, enabling full product lifecycle traceability. Finally, products that pass inspection are packaged according to standards and prepared for delivery.

The entire production process is interconnected, with strict quality control points at every stage, collectively ensuring the reliability and durability of shank adapter products.
